Alter Stil (“Old Style”) exists to embody and preserve the klezmer tradition, playing songs of celebration and togetherness that have been passed down from time immemorial. They specialize in interpreting source material from the 1910s and earlier, lovingly curated to showcase the diverse and often surprising repertoire of turn-of-the-century klezmorim of Eastern Europe. From rollicking freylekhs to poignant dobranotshn and meditative niggunim, Alter Stil delights in bringing you unusual and near-forgotten gems of klezmer history.
